Aircraft at Shuttleworth Collection
A world-famous collection of airworthy vintage and veteran aircraft at Old Warden, best known for regular flying displays of early aeroplanes that still take to the air.
Aircraft that still fly
Shuttleworth is special because so much of the collection is kept in flying condition — this is living history, not static exhibits. The collection hosts around seven air shows a year, including atmospheric evening displays, when the veteran aeroplanes take to the air.
Aircraft highlights to look for
- the Blériot XI of 1909 — often described as the world's oldest airworthy aircraft
- the Blackburn Type D (1912) — the oldest airworthy British aeroplane
- the DH.88 Comet racer that won the 1934 England–Australia air race
- WWII fighters — a Spitfire Mk Vc and a Sea Hurricane
- WWI types — Sopwith Camel, Pup and Triplane and a Bristol F.2B
