Aircraft at Fleet Air Arm Museum

Britain's museum of Royal Navy aviation, beside the working air station at RNAS Yeovilton. Four halls of naval fighters, helicopters and history — plus a walk-on Aircraft Carrier Experience and the prototype Concorde 002.

Inside the museum: the four halls

Hall 1 traces early naval aviation, from airships and biplanes to modern jets and helicopters.
Hall 2 focuses on the Second World War (including a Japanese Ohka piloted flying bomb) and Korea.
Hall 3 — the Aircraft Carrier Experience is the showpiece: a walk-on mock-up of the flight deck of HMS Ark Royal as it was in the 1970s, with a simulated ride up to the carrier's island.
Hall 4 covers modern jets and experimental programmes.

Making the most of your visit

The Aircraft Carrier Experience is the highlight — you step onto a recreated flight deck surrounded by real aircraft, which is superb for photos and brilliant for families. Because it's beside a live naval air station, you may also catch real helicopters and jets flying nearby. Record the naval serials (they differ from civil registrations) on your log sheet, and set the kids the challenge of finding a helicopter, a folding-wing aircraft and Concorde.
